This species is also known by the names “Hockey Stick Catfish”, “Lima Shovelnose”, “Chiripira”, “Chucharón” and “Pico de pato”. Its depressed head, make it very distinctive from other catfish species. Sorubim spp. often swim in a characteristic, vertically-orientated posture with the head pointing downwards and caudal fin uppermost.
